Dr. Jane Thomas dies at age 81

Dr Jane ThomasJane Thomas, Ph.D., assistant dean for Student Affairs emerita for the Wayne State University School of Medicine, died Nov. 28. She was 81. “Dr. Thomas was wholly devoted to the School of Medicine, its students and its alumni,” Dean Jack D. Sobel, M.D., said. “Long after her retirement, she was a familiar face on our campus as she volunteered for numerous committees and organizations, including as a current member of the school’s Board of Visitors. She will be greatly missed for her energetic passion for our school.” Read more.

The Medical Alumni Association Board of Governors serves as a voice for the alumni body, representing alumni issues and helping connect alumni with each other, with students and with the School of Medicine.

Alvin Pelt, M.D. ’84, Res. ’89, recently published a book on health relationships titled “Wish I Knew Before Loving You.”

Paula Orr, M.D. ’94, was recently named News 2’s Supergirl for balancing family and medicine, and as a champion for women. Read more.

McLaren Greater Lansing recently honored Kurt Carter, M.D. ’73, Res. ’78, for his many contributions to the community at the McLaren Greater Lansing Healthcare Foundation’s Annual Gala on Nov. 5.

Jeffrey DeClaire

Jeffrey DeClaire, M.D. Res. ’84, has been appointed medical director, Department of Surgery, and director of the Orthopedic Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement Program at Crittenton Hospital Medical Center. Read more.

John Dawdy, M.D. ’16, presented “Clinical Research in Practice, the Journal of Team Hippocrates: Student-run journal as a novel approach to incorporating evidence-based medicine into medical school curriculum.” Read more.
